Chet Hanks confronted Eric André at ComplexCon in Los Angeles over the weekend, reigniting a dispute that has simmered since their chaotic interview three years prior. In footage shared by Hanks on social media, he approached André from behind at the Los Angeles Convention Center and placed a hand on his shoulder. André initially appeared happy to see him, but the mood quickly changed as he turned visibly confused. Security eventually separated the two.
Hanks claimed in an Instagram post that André “had NO MEMORY WHATSOEVER of trashing me to the media after I outshined him on his own show.” He alleged that André later admitted the issue stemmed from Hanks “mocking Caribbean culture” when he performed a Jamaican accent during his appearance on The Eric Andre Show.
The feud originated more than three years ago when Hanks appeared on the sixth season of The Eric Andre Show, featuring polarizing impressions and deliberately unhinged comedy. André later claimed in a Rolling Stone interview that dangerous behaviour occurred behind the scenes, describing Hanks as “emotionally disturbed” and alleging he recklessly rode a stolen motorcycle on set.
Hanks disputed André’s account on social media, claiming he decided to “match that energy” after being invited on the program. He acknowledged riding a dirt bike but said he only performed a wheelie. He accused André of resenting him for supposedly outshining him on his own show.
André responded by calling Hanks a liar and demanding a DNA test to prove Tom Hanks was his father. When asked months later whether the dispute was manufactured for promotion, André insisted the contention was real, saying “Tell him to say that shit to my fucking face.” It took three years, but Hanks apparently took the challenge seriously.
