Madonna transformed Knockdown Center in Queens into Club Confessions on Saturday, July 11, the night before her album Confessions II officially topped the Billboard 200. The free event featured Stuart Price, who co-produced Confessions II, and Honey Dijon, a frequent Madonna remixer who contributed to the Confessions II: Afterhours Edition.
Crowds extended several blocks down the street outside the venue. Attendees entered through a giant inflatable installation and a green laser-laden forest inspired by Madonna’s Confessions II short film. Stuart Price opened the main performance before Madonna took the stage at 1:10 a.m., declaring “New York, I love you so much – but are you ready?!”
The setlist focused on Confessions II tracks, with appearances from older material including “Get Together” from the original Confessions, “Thief of Hearts” from Erotica, and “Physical Attraction” from her 1983 self-titled debut. “Danceteria” emerged as a standout moment, with attendees singing along to the autobiographical track while dancing in front of Madonna herself.
Less than 12 hours after the event closed, Billboard confirmed that Confessions II had debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking Madonna’s 10th No. 1 album and her biggest streaming week ever. This achievement places her in an exclusive club of only 11 artists with 10 or more No. 1 albums.
