Simple Plan are drawing a large share of first-time listeners to their live shows after 25 years as a band. Drummer Chuck Comeau told Billboard that some audiences are made up of fans who were not born when “I’m Just a Kid” was released in 2002, alongside original listeners who now bring their own children.
Much of the renewed attention traces to “I’m Just a Kid” going viral on TikTok, where it soundtracked a challenge encouraging users to recreate their childhood photos. Comeau described the trend as a “gigantic gift.” The band’s 2004 album Still Not Getting Any debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, while “Perfect” and “Welcome to My Life” reached Nos. 24 and 40 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Good Things Festival
Simple Plan join the Good Things Festival bill in Australia, led by Limp Bizkit and also featuring Spiritbox, the All-American Rejects, Bad Religion and MxPx. Dates are Dec. 4 at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse, Dec. 5 at Sydney Showground and Dec. 6 at Brisbane Showgrounds. The trip marks the band’s third visit to Australia in three years.
Comeau said streaming has helped break down genre boundaries that once divided fans. The band has also shared stages with Slipknot at European festivals.
New Album and Book
Simple Plan have started writing their seventh studio album, with work set to continue into 2027. Comeau said the aim is to refine the band’s sound rather than overhaul it. The record will follow Harder Than It Looks, released in 2022.
The band will release the children’s picture book I’m Just a Kid: The Story of Simple Plan, illustrated by Jomike Tejido, on March 9, 2027. Next year also marks 25 years since the debut album No Pads, No Helmets Just Balls. Comeau said a special-edition vinyl and a few anniversary performances are on the table, but not a full album tour.
Asked about a farewell tour, Comeau said, “Not in the cards for now.”
