Alanis Morissette identifies as pansexual, she said in an appearance on the Handsome Podcast. The episode was uploaded November 3, and Morissette was the podcast trio’s first in-person guest. The show is co-hosted by Fortune Feimster, Tig Notaro and Mae Martin.
Toward the end of the episode, Feimster told Morissette she was sorry for the men who hurt her but not sorry for the songs that came from it, then asked, “Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?” Morissette replied, “I’m pansexual, so yeah,” and added, “I get everything.” When Notaro asked whether she was really pansexual, Morissette confirmed, “I am.” After Notaro joked that they should have opened the episode with the revelation, Morissette said she likes to leave it for the epilogue and added, “I like to confuse people on the way out.”
Morissette’s first holiday album, Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, arrived on Friday, November 6. The 14-track set was led by her recording of “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” featuring Brandi Carlile and Steve Martin. A music video for the second single, “To an Empath at Christmas Time,” was released on Saturday; in it, Morissette gets snowed in.
Morissette has three Billboard 200 No. 1 albums, and her single “Ironic” reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1996. She is married to Mario Treadway, who is known as the artist Souleye. The couple wed in 2010 and have three children.
