Harry Styles paused his Madison Square Garden residency show on Saturday, October 10, to ask the crowd to think about Oscar Belgal, a 28-year-old man shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in the Bronx earlier that week.

On Saturday, October 10, Harry Styles asked a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City to turn their attention to Oscar Belgal, a 28-year-old man shot by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in his car in the Bronx earlier that week while his 5-year-old son was in the backseat. Concertgoers captured the moment and uploaded clips to TikTok.

Before performing “Sign of the Times,” Styles said, “I just want us to take a moment to think about Oscar Belgal tonight.” In a speech in which he did not say ICE, he urged the audience to “look after each other” and said that people who do not look like them and were not born where they are from deserve respect, love and dignity.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, Belgal was backing his car into a parking spot in the Marble Hill neighborhood on Thursday when he was surrounded by ICE officers in plain clothes. His vehicle started to move forward and he was shot in the neck. Tisch said at least one ICE officer fired seven shots. City police, who are not involved in federal immigration enforcement, arrived after a report of shots fired and took Belgal to a hospital. He is now being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The child is safe and in the care of a family member.

Federal officials described Belgal as an illegal alien gang member from the Dominican Republic who refused to get out of his car and struck two government vehicles. Tisch said Belgal had two prior arrests in New York City: one in 2023 for robbery, in which he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny, and one in 2025 for criminal sale of a controlled substance, which is still pending.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said at a press conference on Thursday, “What happened today was an outrage.” He added, “There is no explanation for federal officers firing this many rounds into a car that has a 5-year-old in the car.”

Tour schedule

Styles’ Madison Square Garden residency, which runs Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays through October 31, resumes with night 22 on October 14. He has also extended his touring plans into 2027 with stadium dates in more North American cities, including Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, Atlanta and Chicago, ahead of a summer European leg. His fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in March.
