Soulja Boy Teases 2028 Presidential Run

Soulja Boy Teases 2028 Presidential Run Music News
Rapper Soulja Boy hinted at a 2028 U.S. presidential run in an Instagram post on Saturday, October 10, citing economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and technology and AI. It is unclear whether he plans to formally launch a campaign.

Rapper Soulja Boy, born DeAndre Cortez Way, teased a 2028 presidential run in an Instagram post on Saturday, October 10. The post was captioned “SOULJA BOY 2028” and called the move “a new chapter” and “a bigger vision.”

The post named four areas of focus: “economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and AI.” The rapper wrote that he has “always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible” and that he is now “exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service.”

It is unclear whether Soulja Boy plans to formally launch a campaign or is testing interest. The post included no policy specifics beyond the four focus areas.

The tease comes less than two years after Soulja Boy performed at the Crypto Ball, an event held during Donald Trump’s January 2025 inauguration festivities. He later said he had been paid well for the gig and brushed off the backlash.

The idea is not entirely new. In January 2019, Saturday Night Live aired a sketch imagining Soulja Boy running for president, with Chris Redd playing the rapper. Soulja Boy shared the parody on social media at the time.

His debut single, “Crank That (Soulja Boy),” spent seven nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007 and became one of the first songs to sell more than 3 million digital downloads in the U.S. His debut album, souljaboytellem.com, peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.
