Rosalía Appears to Stand En Pointe on ‘SNL,’ Then Sings Through a Rain Shower Music News
Rosalía performed two numbers on “Saturday Night Live,” including “Reliquia,” which she sang while appearing to stand en pointe. Her second song, “Magnolias,” was staged with an in-studio rain shower.

Rosalía appeared on “Saturday Night Live” and performed two songs. For her first number, “Reliquia,” the singer stood in place, perfectly still, and appeared to be standing en pointe for the entire four-minute performance. A dozen dancers lined up on either side of her at the end of the song as a strobe effect took over.

For her second number, “Magnolias,” Rosalía did not assume the en pointe position. An in-studio rain shower erupted midway through the song, dampening her hair and face and leaving her white dress clingy and sheer.

On social media, viewers praised her vocals during “Reliquia” and some wondered whether she was being propped up by unseen means. Fans who have seen her balletic work on her global “Lux” tour said she could perform that kind of movement without artificial aid.

Rosalía also appeared in one comedy sketch, in which she appeared in a thought bubble encouraging host Shane Gillis to leave his gravely ill mother’s bedside for a Jelly Roll concert at Las Vegas’ Sphere. Gillis’ monologue drew a divided reaction on social media, with some viewers defending it and others criticizing it.

According to Variety, Rosalía is already heavily favored to receive an album of the year nomination at the Grammy Awards for “Lux.” First-round Grammy voting opens Monday. She is also up for seven awards at the upcoming Latin Grammys.
