Nick Valensi of The Strokes, producer Mr Hudson and singer-songwriter Aziya have released “Scream Your Name”, the second single from newly launched record label Sick.
The track is a lovelorn song built on thumping rhythms and a haunting distorted guitar. Aziya described it as an “ode to the push and pull of a relationship you absolutely shouldn’t be in.”
In a statement, Aziya said she told the collaborators she “just wanted to experiment and explore, without feeling like there was some huge professional agenda behind the song.” She said the lyrics were meant to “feel ironically fun too, despite describing a relationship that’s extremely unhealthy.”
Sick was founded by Carré Callaway (also known as musician Queen Kwong), Darian Zahedi and Nick Hinman. Its first single, “PULS.zip”, released in September, brought together Lee Kiernan of IDLES and Tokyo-based artist RIS-707.
The label aims to bring established and emerging artists together across generations, genres and cities for collaborative singles without restrictive long-term contracts. It welcomes both independent and signed artists.
Callaway told Flood Magazine, “I want Sick to foster a community and a scene.”
