Australian rock band Powderfinger will reunite in 2027 for a run of concerts, their first in almost two decades. The announcement was made on Friday, October 9, 2026, in a video featuring the five members: Bernard Fanning (vocals), Ian Haug (guitars), Darren Middleton (guitars), John Collins (bass) and Jon Coghill (drums).
In the video, Fanning said: “We’re going to do some shows all around Australia from September next year.” Middleton added: “we’re going to build something pretty special just for you guys.” Further details on the tour will be announced early Monday, October 12, local time.
Background
Powderfinger, from Brisbane, won 18 ARIA Awards and closed their career with five consecutive No. 1 albums, beginning with 1998’s Internationalist. The final chart leader was 2009’s Golden Rule, the band’s seventh and last studio album. The band ended in 2010 with a national Sunsets tour, which sold more than 200,000 tickets.
The members briefly reunited in 2020 for “One Night Lonely,” a virtual concert that raised more than A$500,000 for Support Act and Beyond Blue. Because of social distancing rules at the time, the musicians recorded their parts separately. In August 2023 the band held a fan event and Q&A in Brisbane marking the 20th anniversary of Vulture Street. In 2024 they were honoured with the excellence in community award at Support Act’s Music in the House fundraiser in Sydney, though no instruments were played that night.
Band statement
In a statement issued on Friday morning, the band said: “So when we had something to say, we knew who needed to hear it first.” The band added that the members had recorded a message for fans.
