Rapper Lil Durk was found not guilty of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot connected to a 2022 shooting in Los Angeles that left Saviay’a Robinson, cousin of hip-hop artist Quando Rondo, dead.
Federal prosecutors had charged Durk Devontay Banks, 33, in October 2024, alleging he coordinated a scheme to have Quando Rondo killed as revenge for the 2020 fatal shooting of King Von, a rapper on Banks’ Only the Family crew. The 2020 shooting occurred in Atlanta during a confrontation between Quando Rondo’s affiliates and King Von’s associates; Quando Rondo was not charged and a person affiliated with him had charges dropped after investigators concluded the shooting was self-defence.
Prosecutors claimed five men participated in the murder-for-hire plot and that Banks offered money and musical opportunities to anyone who assassinated Quando Rondo. According to the federal indictment, a credit card connected to Banks and Only the Family Records was used to purchase plane tickets for four men to travel to Los Angeles to locate Quando Rondo. When they found him at a gas station, they opened fire; Quando Rondo was unharmed but Robinson was fatally shot.
At trial, which began in August, witnesses including Kavon London Grant, Keith Jones, and rapper OTF Jam (Kacey Hester) testified against Banks. Banks’ defence attorneys Brian Steel and Drew Findling characterised the witnesses as unreliable liars motivated by self-interest. Five men—Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—were arrested and charged with conspiracy and other offences in connection with the planned assassination.
Banks faces additional legal challenges, including a civil lawsuit related to another death and a separate criminal racketeering charge.
