Miley Cyrus released a trailer for her forthcoming 10th album, Bass Persuades, on Tuesday, presenting herself with the single name “Miley” across the promotional material and social media. The shift appeared to usher in a new era for the star.
In an Instagram post alongside a portrait, Cyrus wrote: “Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me.” The message was signed “Miley.”
Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley’s father, said the mononymous move reflects her evolution as an artist. “I always called my little girl Miley. Just … Miley,” he wrote on Instagram. He noted that he himself went by “CYRUS” before releasing “Achy Breaky Heart” in 1992, and cited examples including Dolly Parton, Cher, Elvis and Prince as artists who adopted single names.
“It’s a natural progression for an iconic superstar legend,” Billy Ray wrote, adding that he had spoken with his daughter and “felt good about her going with her first name.”
The album is scheduled to release September 18 and will contain 10 tracks. According to her label, the project signals a new chapter honouring the influence of Dolly Parton, Cyrus’s godmother, who died on August 25 at age 80. Cyrus will headline two nights at the Hollywood Bowl on October 16 and 18, marking her first full U.S. concerts since 2021.
