Rodrigo, Morissette Duet on ‘Ironic’ at Daisy Chain Fields

Olivia Rodrigo brought Alanis Morissette on stage at her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California on August 29 as a last-minute replacement for Karen O, performing a reworked version of Morissette's 1995 hit.

Olivia Rodrigo turned a last-minute lineup change into a defining moment of her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival on Saturday, August 29, calling Alanis Morissette to the stage after Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O withdrew from the all-women event at Great Park in Irvine, California.

Rodrigo announced the cancellation to the crowd, explaining that Karen O had a personal matter requiring her attention. Moments later, Morissette emerged as the fill-in performer. The two launched into “Ironic,” the 1995 single from Morissette’s landmark album Jagged Little Pill. Partway through, they reworked the song’s most-quoted scenario, changing “beautiful wife” to “beautiful husband” — a rewrite aligned with the festival’s all-women, queer-inclusive lineup that also features Chappell Roan and Doechii.

The duet marked a full-circle moment for Rodrigo, who has cited Jagged Little Pill as a cornerstone of her songwriting. She inducted Morissette into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022, and the pair previously performed together on Rodrigo’s Sour tour in Los Angeles, trading verses on “You Oughta Know.”

Rodrigo staged Daisy Chain Fields at a career high. Her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, debuted atop the Billboard 200 in June with 485,000 equivalent album units — the largest week of 2026 for any solo artist. Lead single “drop dead” bowed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, her fourth chart-topping debut. She became the second artist ever, after Beyoncé, to send each of her first three studio albums to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 while landing at least one Hot 100 leader from each.

The one-day festival raised $10 million for nonprofits supporting women and girls. Rodrigo launches her Unraveled Tour in the coming weeks.
