Richard Lloyd, co-founding guitarist of Television, has been diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a serious form of bile duct cancer.
According to a GoFundMe launched by Lloyd’s Richard Lloyd Group bandmate Sean Seymour, Lloyd has tumors in his liver, including one located dangerously close to a major blood vessel. Doctors cannot safely operate to remove the tumor at this time. Lloyd has been hospitalized in the ICU seven times, experiencing complications including sepsis twice, as well as liver and kidney complications.
The GoFundMe aims to raise $80,000 to support Lloyd and his wife Sheila with medical expenses, living costs, and other needs while Lloyd is unable to work and Sheila serves as his full-time caregiver.
“I am usually a pretty upbeat person and I am taking this in stride, but it has become very difficult on our own and financially we are strapped,” Lloyd said in a statement on the GoFundMe page. “If you can see your way clear to make a donation please do that.”
Patti Smith and Susan Tweedy, wife of Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy, have already contributed to the campaign.
