Kristy Ellis has been appointed permanent CEO of QMusic, the Queensland music industry trade body, following a nationwide search. Ellis, who took on the interim role in April, replaces Kris Stewart, who stepped down after five years.
Ellis brings more than two decades of experience in creative industries, sports, and major events management. Her previous roles include positions at the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, Queensland Rugby Union (Queensland Reds), TEDxBrisbane, and as a board member for Ballet Theatre Queensland.
As CEO, Ellis will oversee QMusic’s key programs and events, including the BIGSOUND summit and showcase and the Queensland Music Awards (QMAs). QMusic chair Jake Challenor said Ellis “demonstrated exceptional operational focus, fresh thinking, and strong commercial momentum during her time as interim CEO.”
The appointment comes as Queensland prepares to host the 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane, positioning the state’s music sector for potential growth and international exposure.
