Taylor Swift joined an iHeartCountry House Party interview on BOB 94.9 FM in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on September 5, discussing her return to country airplay with “I Knew It, I Knew You,” the original song she wrote for Toy Story 5.
Swift explained her approach to the song’s lyrics, saying: “I love that the lyrics of this song are really being delved into by the fans. There are several lyrics that have more than one meaning to them.” She noted that fitting an entire film narrative into a song sometimes requires layered wordplay.
Swift provided specific examples from the opening lines. The word “daze” (d-a-z-e) in “I knew you through the daze of the blades of the grass in summer” can also be read as “days” (d-a-y-s), evoking a blurry childhood memory. “Blades of the grass” references both childhood play and the literal perspective of Toy Story characters, who can only see to grass height. “Parachutes for the free fall of being younger” alludes to both the parachute army toys in the film and symbolically to figures who help soften life’s landings.
Swift also discussed her songwriting philosophy, stating: “One thing I’ve learned over the many years of studio sessions … is your energy and attitude you bring into the room can affect absolutely everything about the day.” She emphasized the importance of enthusiasm when collaborating on creative work.
The station is located about an hour west of Swift’s childhood home in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, where she lived before her family relocated to Nashville to support her country music career.
