Jay-Z’s third concert at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night was delayed nearly four hours after a large number of fans rushed at least two of the stadium’s gates and bypassed security screening, according to a report from ABC7 New York and social media posts.

The band took the stage around 11:50 p.m. ET, playing Ice Cube and Tupac songs over the sound system while stadium staff worked to admit remaining attendees. A stadium announcement stated that “safety is the number-one priority for us and for Jay,” as staff continued processing entry. At the time of reporting, thousands of people remained outside the venue unable to enter, with a full lockdown in effect preventing both entry and exit for an extended period.

The incident marked an anticlimactic conclusion to the three-night stand celebrating the 30th anniversary of Jay-Z’s debut album “Reasonable Doubt.” The first night featured Beyoncé joining Jay-Z on “Can’t Knock the Hustle,” alongside appearances from Blue Ivy Carter, Nas and Alicia Keys. The second night celebrated the 25th anniversary of “The Blueprint” album with guest appearances from Eminem and Pharrell.

Representatives for Jay-Z and Live Nation, the concert’s promoter, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
