Pro Silver Star Ltd., the owner of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) brand, has filed for a temporary restraining order and injunction against My Chemical Romance to stop the band from using DCC-style costumes onstage. The filing concerns the band’s residency opener at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
During the band’s modified performance of “Teenagers,” dancers wearing Cowboys-inspired outfits “armed themselves with rifles in a staged firefight, only to be depicted being shot,” according to the legal documents.
Pro Silver Star initially asked the band “to stop the infringing use of the DCC Uniform,” according to the filing. The band refused. In the legal action, the company wrote that “audience members and online commentators understandably believed that the performers were the real Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.”
The company also said it takes no issue with the band’s music or message. “Silver Star asks only that those performers not wear the DCC Uniform while doing it,” the filing states.
According to video from the show, the costumed dancers returned for the band’s Friday night performance at the Hollywood Bowl despite the legal action. Rolling Stone reported that the band was also scheduled to perform at the venue again that night.
