Jay-Z concluded his yearlong “Jay-Z 30” concert series with the second of two shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Saturday night. The series began with a one-off headlining performance at the Roots Picnic in late May.
The roughly hour-and-a-half finale revisited Jay-Z’s catalog, and the setlist was somewhat static compared with his other performances in the series. Too Short performed “Blow the Whistle,” and Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg performed a medley of their hits including “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang” and “Still D.R.E.”
Earlier stops included guest appearances in Philadelphia from Jazmine Sullivan, Bilal and Roc-A-Fella affiliates Freeway, Beanie Sigel and Peedi Crakk. During his three-night run at Yankee Stadium in New York City, he was joined by Alicia Keys for “Empire State of Mind,” as well as Fat Joe and Jadakiss.
During “Encore,” Jay-Z responded to social media posts claiming that SoFi was not entirely sold out and that many tickets had been given away. “People will tell you that nobody was in here tonight, but you got eyes,” he said. “People will tell you that the music wasn’t great, but you got ears.”
Variety noted that a possible Super Bowl Halftime Show performance remained an open question at the show. It also reported rumors of a new album from collaborators who quickly backpedaled on their statements.
