Michael Sanft, the defense attorney who represented Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis during the 2Pac murder trial, has died, according to FOX5 Las Vegas. He was 54 years old.
Sanft assembled a team and took on Davis’s case pro bono while serving as lead trial attorney for SOS Injury Lawyers, a Las Vegas firm where he had tried more than 150 cases.
After the trial, Sanft told FOX5 Las Vegas that he had no regrets. “We had the best team possible in this case,” he said. “I don’t see what I could’ve done differently.”
Davis was found guilty of orchestrating the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, who was shot in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, following a Mike Tyson fight. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Judge Carli Kierny told Davis at sentencing: “You don’t get to take a man from his family.”
Sanft reportedly died on a Thursday night in Las Vegas. Details surrounding his death have been limited, and no cause of death has been confirmed.
