Producers Robbie Crowell, Joe Bisirri and Aaron Lee Tasjan completed My Second Rodeo, the posthumous album by singer-songwriter Todd Snider, who died on November 14, 2025, at age 59. In Crowell’s estimation, the record was about 70 percent finished when Snider died. Over the following year, Crowell and Bisirri, with Tasjan on guitar, completed the remaining material.
Snider had recorded High, Lonesome and Then Some, released in October 2025, with Crowell, Bisirri and Tasjan as producers. He had dubbed its sound a “slow choogle” and sought to refine it on his next project. His release tour for that album was canceled after his involvement in an incident in Salt Lake City, and he had told Rolling Stone before the tour that it would likely be his last.
My Second Rodeo is a 10-track LP of original songs and the final studio album in which Snider was directly involved. Snider asked to record his vocals and guitar first, with the band built around them, so the album could be replicated in a solo show with only his guitar. He laid out that vision in emails to the producers before his death. Tasjan said the finished record “really felt like a record that he would have made.”
The album was timed to Snider’s 60th birthday and a Todd Snider Day celebration in East Nashville. The event included the renaming of the street in front of Snider’s Purple Building studio to “Todd Snider Way” and a block party showcasing the Eastside Bulldogs, one of Snider’s bands.
Other artists have also honored Snider’s work. Jason Isbell, Hayes Carll, Robert Earl Keen and Billy Strings have covered his song “Play a Train Song” in the past year. Tasjan has introduced a free pre-show meet-and-greet to his concerts this year for fans of Snider.
