Michelle Branch is celebrating the 25th anniversary of her debut album The Spirit Room with Everywhere and Back Again, an EP of reimagined versions of her biggest hits by other artists, out November 6 via BMG.
A new rendition of the 2002 hit “The Game of Love,” featuring New Radicals’ Gregg Alexander, is available now. Alexander wrote the original song, which was recorded by Santana and became a Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit and Grammy winner for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Branch, then 19, provided vocals on that version after Alexander suggested her name to producer Clive Davis.
“I’ve been in a very creative time in my life,” Branch told Rolling Stone. “This whole anniversary project has really been a way to get everybody hyped up.” The new version features a synth-driven sound replacing Santana’s signature guitar work.
In addition to the EP, Branch will undertake an 18-date U.S. tour in fall. She will also perform a special nostalgia-focused show at the Sun Rose in Los Angeles on Tuesday, designed to recall her first TRL appearance. Branch’s next full-length album, her first since 2022’s The Trouble with Fever, is expected to follow the EP release.
