Mallory Hawk, former frontwoman of Customer, released the single “Four O’Clocks” on July 16, 2026. The track appears on her debut solo album Chinook, due July 31.
The song draws from Hawk’s childhood in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she lived from ages 6 to 16. “This song is about the house I lived in from ages 6 to 16 in Fayetteville, North Carolina,” Hawk explained. She added that the home was eventually demolished by the city to build a highway providing easier access to the Fort Bragg military base from nearby residential areas.
Hawk described the emotional resonance of the song’s title: “‘Four o’clocks’ are the flowers that lined the walkway to our front steps.” The flowers are fragrant and magenta, blooming only between 4 and 8 pm, and their scent still evokes memories of coming home from school, she said.
The track features muted French horn and flugelhorn arrangements. Chinook, Hawk’s debut album, is named after the military helicopters that appeared in the skies around her childhood hometown.
