Bret Michaels Has Kidney Stone Surgery After Playing Through Pain Music News
The Poison frontman underwent surgery to remove a kidney stone after performing shows in Charleston, Grantville and Spokane despite intense pain. He said he intends to return to touring once he receives a clean bill of health.

Bret Michaels has completed surgery to remove a kidney stone, the Poison frontman revealed on Facebook, after performing several shows rather than cancelling on fans.

Michaels said the stone would not pass after nearly seven days of waiting it out. “I played through Charleston, WV, Grantville, PA and a special private show at Fairchild AFB in Spokane for veterans, active duty and their families,” he wrote. The day after the Spokane performance, he was admitted to hospital as the pain became too severe.

“The operation has been done and is complete… I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans,” Michaels wrote, adding he intends to return once he has a complete clean bill of health.

Michaels, 63, has a long medical history. He has managed Type 1 diabetes since childhood and survived a life-threatening brain hemorrhage in 2010 before returning to performing. Poison, co-founded by Michaels in Pennsylvania in the mid-1980s, became one of the defining glam-metal acts of the Sunset Strip era, charting 10 top-40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 including the 1988 No. 1 power ballad “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.”

Michaels has not announced changes to his tour schedule.
