Hayley Williams rejected the Department of Homeland Security’s rebuke of her onstage political remarks. During a concert in Chula Vista, California, Williams shouted “F–k ICE” and “Free Palestine,” prompting DHS to issue a statement to Fox News suggesting Americans should thank federal law enforcement officers rather than belittle them.
Williams shared the DHS statement to her Instagram Story on October 5, adding a blunt response of her own. The Paramore frontwoman has incorporated political commentary into her current live performances, including statements before performing “True Believer” in which she declares Christian nationalism the greatest threat to American democracy.
The remarks came during a performance of “Ice in My OJ,” a track from her 2025 solo album Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party. Williams’ solo career has charted on the Billboard 200, following her 2020 debut Petals for Armor and 2021’s FLOWERS for VASES / decansos.
As Paramore’s frontwoman, Williams has led the band to two No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200: 2013’s Paramore and 2023’s This Is Why. She is set to perform at the 2027 edition of Primavera Sound Barcelona alongside Phoebe Bridgers, Fontaines D.C., Robyn, Turnstile and others.
