Chuck Varga, a founding member of shock rock band GWAR known as Sexecutioner, has passed away at age 68. He died peacefully with his wife Bambi at his side, according to an announcement by GWAR bassist Casey Orr on September 25.
Varga was a key member of GWAR during the band’s breakthrough years from 1986 to 1996, later returning periodically through 2022. Born in 1958, he attended Virginia Commonwealth University, where he met Hunter Jackson. Together, they created The Slave Pit, a creative space that helped inspire GWAR’s formation.
The band gained a nationwide following and received two Grammy nominations. Varga left GWAR in 1997 to pursue opportunities in film, television, and Broadway before founding Hyperreal Productions.
In April, GWAR set up a blood donation campaign to support Varga as he battled cancer. The band later launched a fundraiser in June to help Varga and his wife pay for medical bills.
