Rodrigo’s Dress Commission Saves Palestinian Fashion Brand

Rodrigo's Dress Commission Saves Palestinian Fashion Brand Music News
Olivia Rodrigo commissioned a pale pink minidress from Palestinian label Nöl Collective, providing a lifeline after Israeli customs destroyed one of the brand's fabric shipments. Olivia Rodrigo’s commission of a dress from Palestinian fashion label Nöl Collective provided critical support to the brand after Israeli customs destroyed one of its fabric shipments earlier in 2026. Founder Yasmeen Mjalli had considered shutting down operations before Rodrigo’s request arrived.

The 23-year-old wore the designer’s pale pink minidress during a press presentation ahead of the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival on August 29 at Great Park in Irvine, California. Made in the West Bank, the raw silk garment featured traditional Palestinian tatreez embroidery depicting birds and interconnected daisies.

Mjalli told Vogue Arabia that producing the piece required navigating restrictions on sourcing materials and travel in occupied territories. Established in 2020, Nöl Collective works with women’s cooperatives, sewing workshops and artisans across Palestine to preserve traditional craft. Shortly before Rodrigo’s team contacted her, a shipment of naturally dyed handwoven wool from India was held by Israeli customs for months before being destroyed. When Mjalli attempted to travel to Jerusalem for replacement materials, military closures blocked the necessary roads.

With less than a week to complete the commission, Mjalli and a colleague found raw silk in Ramallah—described as the only natural fiber available at the market in the required pale pink shade. The finished dress passed through nine pairs of hands before completion, involving a network of craftspeople across the territory. Delivery to Los Angeles required two strangers to carry the garment in their luggage and hand-deliver it in California.

The Daisy Chain Fields festival assembled an all-women lineup including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, Garbage and The Breeders, with appearances from Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette. The event directed net proceeds toward organizations working in reproductive healthcare, maternal health, legal advocacy and economic justice.
