Mike McCready, founding member and lead guitarist of Pearl Jam, performed the national anthem ahead of the Seattle Seahawks’ game against the New England Patriots on September 10, 2026, delivering a Hendrix-inspired rendition of the anthem.
Soundgarden took the halftime stage with McCready on guitar and The Pretty Reckless’ Taylor Momsen on vocals, performing a medley including “Outshined” and “Spoonman.” Momsen has fronted Soundgarden on several occasions since the death of original singer Chris Cornell in May 2017. She previously performed with the band at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in November 2025 and at the “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” benefit in January 2019.
The Seahawks defeated the Patriots 13-10. The pregame festivities also included a Salute 250 Kickoff Concert featuring Luke Bryan, held three hours before kickoff, and a moment of silence honouring those lost in terror attacks 25 years prior.
Soundgarden is preparing a comeback album featuring final recordings with Cornell, with drummer Matt Cameron confirming the surviving members are mixing tracks recorded with producer Terry Date for a planned eight-track LP. The songs are based on demos the group began working on in 2013–2014 and again in 2015–2016, ahead of their final tour with Cornell in 2017.
McCready is also developing a rock opera tribute to his band’s 1990s grunge heyday through his multimedia project Farewell to Seasons, with deluxe editions and a Platinum graphic novel package due next month alongside a soundtrack featuring new and original songs.
