Pop sensation Taylor Swift made history once again by taking home seven awards at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Wednesday, tying her with Beyoncé for the most lifetime honors in the history of the event. The 34-year-old superstar now holds 30 VMAs, solidifying her legacy in the music world.

The night’s biggest highlight came when Swift won the top honor, Video of the Year, for her visually striking black-and-white video Fortnight, featuring Post Malone. The video, set in a bare psychiatric hospital, reflects the introspective mood of her album The Tortured Poets Department. During her acceptance speech, Swift revealed that despite the video’s somber tone, filming was surprisingly fun.

"This video may seem sad, but it was honestly the most fun video to make," Swift shared. She also gave a shout-out to her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce, who cheered her on throughout the shoot. "Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic," she added with a smile.

Swift thanked her loyal fans for voting and urged them to participate in the upcoming U.S. presidential election. Although she endorsed Kamala Harris earlier, Swift kept her speech non-partisan, focusing on the importance of voting.

Swift’s win brought her career VMA total to 30, matching Beyoncé’s all-time record. In addition to Video of the Year, Swift snagged Artist of the Year and Song of the Summer. Impressively, this marked her third consecutive Video of the Year award, following her wins for All Too Well in 2022 and Anti-Hero in 2023, setting a record for the most Video of the Year awards by a single artist.

During the show, Swift also shared the stage with Post Malone when their collaboration on Fortnight won Best Collaboration. Swift praised Malone as “ridiculously talented” and “unfailingly polite,” joking that she had to convince him to stop calling her "ma'am." Malone, in turn, complimented Swift, calling her “one of the most kind and talented people” he’s ever known.

The VMAs, which began airing in 1984, are known for memorable moments, and Wednesday’s show was no exception. Emerging star Chappell Roan won Best New Artist, dedicating her award to drag artists and her LGBTQ+ fans, while Blackpink’s Lisa claimed Best K-pop Video, and Brazilian singer Anitta took home Best Latin Video.

The night also saw a powerful opening performance from rapper Eminem, performing his hit Houdini from The Death of Slim Shady, with country artist Jelly Roll joining via video feed. Katy Perry, honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, performed a medley of hits, including Teenage Dream and Firework, and was presented with the award by her husband, actor Orlando Bloom.

Perry thanked MTV, saying, "Thank you to MTV for believing in my weirdness from day one."
