Beyoncé Could Become First Black Woman Nominated for Album of the Year at CMA Awards

As the 58th Country Music Association (CMA) Awards approach, all eyes are on Beyoncé Knowles Carter, who could make history by becoming the first Black woman nominated for Album of the Year, thanks to her groundbreaking album Cowboy Carter.


The CMA Awards, one of the most prestigious ceremonies in the country music world, will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on November 20. Fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of nominations, which will be revealed later this month, wondering if Beyoncé will reach this significant milestone.


Why Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Is a Contender for Album of the Year


Beyoncé’s eighth studio album Cowboy Carter, released on March 29, has already made waves in the music world, breaking records and earning critical acclaim. The album has been praised for shining a spotlight on Black country artists and celebrating the genre’s rich, diverse roots. With leading singles like “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” receiving praise from both fans and country music legends like Dolly Parton, Beyoncé has firmly established herself in the country music scene.


The superstar recently made history as the most nominated artist at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, earning 12 nominations thanks to Cowboy Carter. Many are now hoping that her CMA Awards journey will continue with a nomination for Album of the Year.


A Year of Milestones for Black Artists at the CMA Awards


Should Beyoncé earn a nomination, it would mark another historic moment for Black women in country music. In 2023, Tracy Chapman became the first Black woman to win a CMA Award when Luke Combs’ cover of her 1988 hit “Fast Car” won Song of the Year. While Chapman received the award as the original songwriter, Combs took home the Single of the Year prize for his performance of the song, which appeared on his Gettin’ Old album.


Last year’s CMA Awards were also a standout for Lainey Wilson, who led the nominations and took home the top prize for Entertainer of the Year, as well as Album of the Year for Bell Bottom Country.


Charley Pride’s Pioneering Legacy


Beyoncé’s potential nomination follows in the footsteps of legendary country artist Charley Pride, the first Black artist to win a CMA Award. Pride, a three-time winner, first made waves in 1968 when he was nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. He went on to win both categories in 1971, cementing his legacy as a trailblazer in country music.

Megadeth Drummer Criticizes Fashion Brand for “Stealing” Heavy Metal Imagery

  Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren has publicly criticized a fashion brand for allegedly "stealing" artwork from Soilwork's 2005 album Stabbing the Drama . The high-end hoodie in question, manufactured by Vetements and priced at a staggering $1600, features artwork that closely resembles the Stabbing the Drama cover art, which Verbeuren played drums on. In a post on Instagram, Verbeuren, who left Soilwork to join Megadeth in 2016, expressed his frustration and sought opinions from fellow metalheads.
