Swifties Disenchanted by Germany’s New Taylor Swift Wax Figure
"Darling, it's a daydream dressed like a nightmare."
Taylor Swift fans, known as Swifties, are in distress over a less-than-flattering new wax figure of the pop star that was unveiled in Germany this week. The figure, which debuted on Tuesday at the Panoptikum in Hamburg, Germany’s oldest and largest wax museum, has left fans less than enchanted.
The wax figure is dressed in a sequined romper reminiscent of the one Swift wore at the 2019 iHeart Radio Music Awards, though it features different shoes and Swift’s hair down. However, it’s the lack of resemblance to the singer that has fans up in arms. Swifties quickly flooded the museum's Instagram post with brutally honest feedback. "Darling, it's a daydream dressed like a nightmare," one fan commented, flipping a famous lyric from Swift's 1989 hit "Blank Space." Another user chimed in with, "What is that? 😭😭 Sorry, but that's embarrassing!" while another bluntly stated, "Completely unrealistic 😮 someone did a terrible job."
One of the most glaring inaccuracies pointed out by fans is the figure’s attempt at Swift’s signature heart-hand gesture. While Swift typically forms the heart shape using both of her full hands, the wax figure only uses its index fingers and thumbs, leaving fans disappointed.
Despite the backlash, the wax Swift is in notable company at the Panoptikum, which also features figures of Queen Elizabeth II, Angelina Jolie, and Swift’s close friend Ed Sheeran.
The unveiling of the wax figure comes just weeks after the real Taylor Swift brought her Eras Tour to Hamburg, performing in the city on July 23 and 24. Reflecting on her time there, Swift posted on Instagram, "Hamburg!! I loved those crowds so so so much. AND we got a rain show night one, unlocking Fuzzy Hair Me for the evening 😆 Been having a blast watching these new Eras crowd traditions unfold all throughout Europe… You guys are seriously so creative. See you 🔜 Munich!"
As Swift prepares to wrap up the European leg of her tour with five nights in London starting Thursday, she’s slated for a two-month break before embarking on the final stretch of the massive Eras Tour in North America. The tour, which will span 149 shows across five continents, is set to conclude on December 8 in Vancouver.
