Scott Stapp Achieves New Solo Top 40 Hit with “Black Butterfly”
Nearly six months after the release of his latest solo album, Scott Stapp is still making waves in the music scene. The lead single from his album *Higher Power*, "Black Butterfly," has made its debut on a Billboard chart where Stapp has previously seen considerable success, marking a notable milestone in his solo career.
This week, "Black Butterfly" enters the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart at No. 35. This chart ranks the rock songs with the highest audience impressions on U.S. radio stations that play mainstream rock, showcasing tracks that resonate most with listeners.
With this achievement, Stapp adds to his impressive tally of top 40 hits on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, bringing his total to seven. The chart, which features only 40 positions, makes every entry a notable success, reflecting the competitive nature of rock radio.
"Black Butterfly" quickly rises to become Stapp’s fifth-highest-charting song on this list. While the single is still early in its chart run, it shows potential for further advancement in the coming weeks, reflecting Stapp’s enduring appeal and the song’s strong reception.
Stapp’s highest chart achievement remains a No. 10 position earlier this year with “Higher Power,” the lead single from his album of the same name. That track enjoyed a remarkable 23-week run on the chart, making it his longest-charting single and reaching the top tier for the first time.
In comparison, “Black Butterfly” surpasses previous singles "Slow Suicide" and "Name," which peaked at Nos. 38 and 39 respectively. This marks a significant achievement for Stapp, as it continues his successful streak on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.
Released as the third single from *Higher Power*, "Black Butterfly" was initially introduced to fans in November 2023, months before the album’s official release. The song’s delayed chart entry—spanning over six months—illustrates the extended journey it has taken to gain traction on mainstream rock radio, a testament to its enduring appeal.
This week, Stapp’s presence on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart is further highlighted by his collaboration with the band Dorothy. Their new track “Mud” debuts at No. 40, and Stapp joins them on the album's latest focus track, “If These Walls Could Talk,” blending his signature style with Dorothy’s dynamic sound.
