Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Drop New Track, ‘Die With a Smile’

The wait is over! Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars have finally released their highly anticipated new song, “Die With a Smile.” The track dropped last night, Thursday, August 15, at midnight ET / 9 p.m. PT, after days of buildup and excitement from fans.


The song has already started making waves, with its accompanying music video showcasing both artists in country-inspired outfits, hinting at a surprising genre crossover. Gaga and Mars join a growing list of pop stars who have embraced country music this year, following in the footsteps of artists like Beyoncé and Post Malone.



“Die With a Smile” is a stand-alone single, not tied to any upcoming albums, according to a representative. The track also features the influence of Grammy-winning songwriter-producer Andrew Watt, who is known for his work with rock legends like the Rolling Stones, Elton John, and Ozzy Osbourne. Watt had teased his involvement on social media before the release, adding to the anticipation.


This new song marks the first major solo release in years for both Gaga and Mars. Bruno Mars last made headlines with his Grammy-winning Silk Sonic project alongside Anderson .Paak two years ago, while Lady Gaga’s most recent album, Chromatica, was released in 2020. Gaga, however, has remained in the spotlight, recently delivering a powerful performance on “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” a track from the Rolling Stones’ Hackney Diamonds album.


In addition to her music, Gaga has been busy with her acting career, starring in the upcoming comic book musical Joker: Folie À Deux. In a recent interview with Empire, she described the film as “unlike anything I’ve ever done before.” Starring opposite Joaquin Phoenix as Lee, a new take on the iconic Harley Quinn character, Gaga has focused on blending music seamlessly with dialogue, rather than traditional musical numbers.


While “Die With a Smile” isn’t connected to Joker: Folie À Deux, its dark and evocative title certainly aligns with the film’s themes, making it a perfect addition to Gaga and Mars' diverse portfolios.
