Finneas Defends Billie Eilish Against 'Predatory' and 'Queerbaiting' Allegations Over Charli XCX Collaboration
Finneas has stepped up to defend his sister Billie Eilish against accusations from a TikTok user who labeled her lyrics in a Charli XCX remix as "highkey predatory" and accused her of "queerbaiting."
The controversy erupted after Eilish contributed a verse to Charli XCX's "Guess" remix. Known for her rare guest appearances, the surprise collaboration caught many fans off guard. However, one TikTok user took issue with Eilish's lyrics, accusing her of "reducing girls to mere objects" and pretending to be attracted to them for public approval.
The specific line in question that drew the most criticism was, "Charli likes boys, but she knows I'd hit it / Charli, call me if you're with it." The TikToker's video, which has since been removed, also described Eilish as "highkey predatory" towards Charli XCX.
In response, Finneas left a scathing comment on the now-deleted TikTok, as reported by Billboard. "What a take you little clown," he wrote. "I got to watch the entire internet slam my sister for queerbaiting for an entire year when in reality, you were all forcing her to label and out herself."
Charli XCX seemed unfazed by the controversy. She expressed her gratitude and excitement in an Instagram comment on Eilish's post about the track. "Billieeeeeeee!!!!!!! ahhhh tysm for being on this track i’m beyond honored. love and respect forever!!! you’re one of a kind xxxxxx," she wrote, alongside a clip from their music video.
In December 2023, Eilish addressed her sexuality in a Variety interview, as noted by TMZ, revealing she had come out without initially realizing people weren't aware. "I've never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I'm attracted to them as people. I'm attracted to them for real," she said in the interview. However, social media users continued to accuse her of queerbaiting.
Eilish addressed the speculation in her Instagram Stories, writing, "i like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares."
In April, Eilish spoke to Rolling Stone about her explicit lyrics in the song "Lunch," where she candidly discussed her sexuality. "I've been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn't understand -- until, last year, I realized I wanted my face in a vagina," she said. Eilish added that she never planned to discuss her sexuality publicly until it was forced upon her by social media and the press.
Reflecting on the pressure to disclose personal details, Eilish told Rolling Stone, "The whole world suddenly decided who I was, and I didn’t get to say anything or control any of it ... It takes a while to find yourself, and I think it’s really unfair, the way that the internet bullies you into talking about who you are and what you are."
Throughout her career, fans have fixated on Eilish's sexuality and body, often making invasive speculations. Initially, she wore baggy clothes to avoid discussions about her body, which led to undue focus on her figure. Although she didn't want her sexuality to become public, she acknowledged that being open about it has helped her embrace and appreciate her body more.
