Fans Select Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Aghori Mhori Mei’ as Favorite New Music in All-Genre Poll

The Smashing Pumpkins, led by Billy Corgan, have triumphed in this week's new music poll, garnering a significant 70% of the vote with their latest album, *Aghori Mhori Mei*. The poll, hosted by Billboard and published on August 2, asked music fans to choose their favorite new release from various genres.


Fans overwhelmingly voted for the Smashing Pumpkins' 13th studio album, putting it well ahead of other new releases, including Charli XCX featuring Billie Eilish's “Guess,” Kacey Musgraves' *Deeper Into the Well*, Justin Quiles' *Permanente*, and Jack White's *No Name*.


*Aghori Mhori Mei*, a 10-track album, follows the band's three-act rock opera *ATUM* from last year. Despite a hectic touring schedule, the Chicago-based rock veterans managed to record the new album. In a statement, Corgan discussed the inspiration behind the album, expressing a fascination with the idea that "you can’t go home again." He explored this concept not with nostalgia, but as a way to move forward, experimenting with the band’s musical styles from 1990-1996 to see if they could still evoke something fresh and innovative.


Corgan had previously described *ATUM*, a 33-song, two-hour-plus album, as a sequel to the Smashing Pumpkins' 1995 double album *Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness* and 2000’s *Machina/The Machines of God*.


The announcement of *Aghori Mhori Mei* came in mid-July, coinciding with the Pumpkins' fall tour dates in South and Latin America, their first tour in the region in nearly ten years. Currently, Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlain are also opening for Green Day on their Saviors tour, with additional headlining shows in the U.S. through September. The Latin American leg of their tour will kick off on November 1 in Brasilia, Brazil.


Following the Smashing Pumpkins in the poll results was Charli XCX’s remix of “Guess” featuring Billie Eilish, which received 10% of the vote.

  Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren has publicly criticized a fashion brand for allegedly "stealing" artwork from Soilwork's 2005 album Stabbing the Drama .
