Fallen Angels, which played at the Todd Haimes Theatre on Broadway this spring, will be released as a filmed stage capture in cinemas starting October 22, courtesy of Trafalgar Releasing.
The production received four Tony Award nominations, including two for lead actresses Rose Byrne and Kelli O’Hara. The 1930s-set Noël Coward comedy follows longtime friends Julia (O’Hara) and Jane (Byrne) who discover their former lover is coming to town while their husbands are away, leading to physical comedy and champagne-fuelled chaos.
The supporting cast includes Christopher Fitzgerald as Willy, Aasif Mandvi as Fred, Mark Consuelos as Maurice Duclos, and Tracee Chimo as the maid Saunders. Costume designer Jeff Mahshie won a Tony Award for his 1930s-era designs.
The film captures close-up performances and intimate details of the Art Deco apartment setting, allowing audiences to see facial expressions and physical comedy beats that may be difficult to discern from theatre seats.
