The Chicks Open 'Taking the Long Way' Tour in Detroit Music News
The trio performed the Grammy-winning 2006 album in full at the Fox Theater in Detroit on September 30, followed by a hits set. The tour celebrates the 20th anniversary of the landmark record.

The Chicks kicked off their Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary tour at the Fox Theater in Detroit on September 30, performing the 14-track album in its entirety before moving into a hits set.

The 23-song performance comprised two acts. In the first act, Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robison, dressed in black and white, played the full 2006 album, including “Not Ready to Make Nice,” the band’s response to backlash following Maines’ 2003 criticism of then-President George W. Bush from a London stage.

The second act featured the Chicks’ hits, including “Goodbye Earl,” “Cowboy Take Me Away,” a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” and “Gaslighter” from their 2020 album.

The tour continues with two nights in Chicago and concludes in Los Angeles with three nights at the Dolby Theater, November 1–3.

Sony’s Legacy Recordings will release an expanded edition of Taking the Long Way on October 2, featuring five bonus tracks: three unreleased demos and two rare songs.
