Mushroom Group, the Australian independent music company founded in 1972, is putting its longtime Melbourne headquarters at 9 Dundas Lane in Albert Park on the market after nearly five decades. The former biscuit factory has served as the company’s base since 1980 and is home to Frontier Touring, one of Australia’s leading concert promoters.
The 525 square-metre freehold corner property includes approximately 1,080 square metres of building space across two main levels, plus upper-level office and rooftop terrace. Marshall White, Stonebridge and Advise Transact are handling the sale.
The building has been central to Australian music history, hosting signings and operations for artists including Kylie Minogue, Paul Kelly, Vance Joy, The Teskey Brothers and Yothu Yindi. Frontier Touring, which operates from the site, has promoted tours for Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna and Foo Fighters.
Mushroom Group CEO Matt Gudinski, son of late founder Michael Gudinski, said finding the right custodian to “carry Dundas Lane’s storied history into its next chapter” was important. The company is relocating to a standalone warehouse on Little Collins Street in Melbourne’s East End to consolidate operations across touring, record labels, talent management, publishing and film production.
Mushroom Group celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023 with releases and a documentary on Michael Gudinski, who died in 2021.
