Mexican disco-funk band Midnight Generation, currently touring North America with Empire of the Sun and Polo & Pan, has released a new song titled “Norway.” It follows the band’s earlier single “Almost on My Own,” released a few weeks prior.
Frontman Fernando Mares said in a press release that the song was written after inspiration struck while the band was playing the Trevarefest festival in a small Norwegian fishing village.
“It’s about an impossible love, and the hope that maybe one day we’ll make it back there and finally take that trip together,” Mares said.
Musically, “Norway” continues the band’s dance-floor sound, combining shimmering synths and disco rhythms with French Touch and late-’70s and ’80s influences. The accompanying music video was filmed in a continuous wide shot at a park in Texcoco, outside Mexico City, featuring a vintage GMC G-Series van.
Midnight Generation is nearing the end of its North American tour supporting Empire of the Sun and Polo & Pan. After opening the run at Red Rocks in August and playing stops including New York’s Forest Hills Stadium, the band is set to play the Hollywood Bowl on October 8th before wrapping the tour in Las Vegas the following night.
