Cody Johnson earned his sixth top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart as “Take Me Back (Leave Me There)” rose three spots to No. 10 on the Sept. 19-dated survey. The song drew 7.5 million official U.S. streams (up 19%) Sept. 4–10, according to Luminate. Written by Kelly Archer, Troy Cartwright and Pete Good, the track appears on Johnson’s Banks of the Trinity, his 16-track 10th studio album, which debuted at No. 8 on Top Country Albums in June.
The song gained momentum on TikTok over the summer, fueled by Johnson’s a cappella performance clips and a trend in which couples used the track to reflect on their relationship length. U.S. on-demand streams jumped 150% over five weeks as the song climbed the charts. The surge coincides with Johnson’s four CMA Awards nominations announced Sept. 10, including entertainer of the year, male artist, single and video.
Kane Brown’s “Boots,” featuring Shania Twain, opened at No. 36 on Hot Country Songs with 2.5 million first-week streams and 1,000 sold. The track marks Brown’s 47th chart entry and Twain’s 35th. Mumford & Sons made their Hot Country Songs debut at No. 45 with “Here,” featuring Chris Stapleton, which drew 2.2 million streams. The track opens the band’s sixth studio album, Prizefighter, released in February and now being promoted to country radio.
