Noah Kahan Objects to White House Use of 'American Cars' Music News
Noah Kahan said he would never approve his song being used by the White House after it appeared in a social media post featuring President Donald Trump at a General Motors facility in Michigan on Monday.

Noah Kahan objected to the White House’s use of his song “American Cars” in an Instagram post published Monday that featured images of President Donald Trump visiting General Motors’ flagship test site in Michigan.

After fans tagged Kahan in the comments, he responded Tuesday with a statement of disapproval: “Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration.” Co-writer Noah Levine also commented on the post with a more pointed objection.

The song appeared in White House posts on both Instagram and TikTok, with audio disabled on Instagram but still present on the TikTok version.

Kahan joins a growing list of artists who have publicly objected to the White House’s use of their music on social media. Katy Perry criticized the administration for using her 2010 hit “Firework” in a TikTok post featuring military strikes. Ariana Grande similarly objected after the White House used her 2024 song “Bye” in a post depicting ICE agents making arrests. Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Celine Dion, Neil Young and the Rolling Stones have also criticized the use of their songs.
