Olivia Rodrigo has released her first-ever remix, a version of “Expectations” featuring Chappell Roan. The remix reworks the song in an 1980s-inspired style.
The accompanying video is set on a retro game show called “The Big Expectations Show,” in which the two artists compete. Talking Heads frontman David Byrne appears as the fictional host, Johnny Johnson. Roan adds a new verse to the song, slightly changing the lyrics alongside Rodrigo’s original lines.
Background
Rodrigo and Roan both work with producer Dan Nigro and have collaborated several times. Roan opened for Rodrigo on the Sour Tour (2022) and the Guts World Tour (2024). The two also performed Roan’s “Hot to Go!” onstage together in Los Angeles.
“Expectations” was released earlier this year from Rodrigo’s album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, her third album after Sour (2021) and Guts (2024).
Daisy Chain Fields Festival
Rodrigo held the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields Festival on August 29 in Great Park in Irvine, California, with Roan as a headliner. The festival raised $10 million in donations benefiting women and girls, which Melinda French Gates doubled to $20 million.
Upcoming event
Roan will host the Super Graphic Spectacular, a two-night event at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on October 21 and 22 to raise money for trans youth and LGBTQ+ communities. The lineup includes Roan, Lola Young, Caroline Polachek, Tinashe and Muna, among others.
