Kelly Clarkson Clashes With Brooklyn Store Over Shopping Experience

Kelly Clarkson Clashes With Brooklyn Store Over Shopping Experience Music News
Singer Kelly Clarkson publicly criticized Brooklyn shop Art of Play on X after a visit, and the store responded on Instagram. Clarkson replied on Instagram Stories on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Singer Kelly Clarkson became involved in an online dispute with Art of Play, a Brooklyn shop that describes itself as a collection of home goods, puzzles, games, toys and books. On Saturday, October 10, 2026, Clarkson wrote on X that she had visited the store with a few items in mind to buy and felt she was looked at as if she could not afford them. She compared the experience to the treatment of Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman.

Art of Play responded on Instagram, saying Clarkson had asked about buying “Molly,” a one-of-a-kind singing and dancing bird automaton that plays a role in the magic shows the store hosts. The store said Molly is permanently attached to the wall and is not for sale. It also said it was surprised that a small local business became the focus of widespread criticism after one mention by a celebrity.

On Sunday night, Clarkson posted on Instagram Stories disputing the store’s account. She said she had asked whether the item was for sale and was told it cost $15,000, and she wrote, “So you’re not only rude, you’re also a liar.” She added that she supports small businesses and wrote, “It’s not that hard to be kind.”
