Metallica frontman James Hetfield told fans during the band’s October 10 show at Sphere in Las Vegas that the group is not there to push an agenda. Hetfield thanked fans for traveling to see the band and said Metallica is not there, like some other entertainers, to influence audiences.
Hetfield said the band wants fans to leave outside worries at the door. “Metallica’s agenda is love, energy and heavy music, baby!” he said. He did not name any specific entertainers.
The remarks came during Metallica’s Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere, the Las Vegas venue known for its wraparound screen and large-scale visual productions. The band became the first heavy metal act to headline the venue. The residency features performances scheduled through March 2027.
Metallica’s catalog has also continued to chart. The band’s ReLoad returned to the Billboard charts following an expanded reissue, reaching No. 1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart.
The band has addressed subjects including war, addiction and social alienation in its music over its career, and it was among the first musicians to sue the music-sharing service Napster.
