American Authors are launching Bogoo’s Best Day, a new music project aimed at children and families. The band, known for their 2014 top 20 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Best Day of My Life,” will release the debut album The Greatest Adventure Yet on October 23.
The project centers on Bogoo, a character who embarks on adventures with his best friend Bestie and Papa Piña. American Authors apply their songwriting approach to themes of friendship, confidence and individuality. Four songs have been released: “Celebrate,” “Sing With Friends,” “Luckiest Kid Alive,” and “Zombie Walk” (October 1), a Halloween-themed dance track.
Band members Zac Barnett and Matt Sanchez drew from personal experience. Barnett grew up around his father’s work as a puppeteer and magician, informing Bogoo’s character-driven world. Sanchez created Papa Piña inspired by his grandfather and Mexican heritage, with input from his daughter Emma on the project’s direction.
The venture represents a shift in audience for American Authors, who have spent over a decade building a pop-rock catalogue. Their signature hit “Best Day of My Life” peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013–2014. Bogoo’s Best Day redirects those same musical instincts toward songs for parents and children to enjoy together.
