Troye Sivan: ‘Happiest’ in orbit of women

The pop star told Apple Music's Zane Lowe that women have shaped his life and music, citing collaborations with Ariana Grande, Charli xcx and Nicole Kidman ahead of his October 9 album 'She's the Best'.

Troye Sivan opened up about the women who have influenced his life and career while discussing his new single “Party” with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in New York.

“I’m so comfortable and kind of like my happiest, honestly, when I’m existing in the orbit of like a woman,” Sivan said. “Like the kind of safety and protection that I felt from women that I haven’t felt from men.”

The Australian pop star pointed to several collaborations as examples of spaces where he feels most at home: his duet with Ariana Grande, his work with Lily-Rose Depp on The Idol, his SWEAT tour with Charli xcx, and his collaborations with Nicole Kidman.

Sivan traced the feeling back to his teenage years, recalling how he would spend time watching his female friends get ready for house parties rather than attending the events themselves. “The parties themselves, though, were a different story,” he said, noting encounters with homophobic behaviour from other attendees.

The album She’s the Best arrives October 9 and features the single “Party,” which samples Madonna’s 2000 hit “Music.” The project includes appearances from Charli xcx, Ian McKellen and Nicole Kidman.
