Nene Royal, a 16-year-old Thai singer and guitarist, has been crowned the winner of America’s Got Talent season 21. She received the $1 million winner’s prize during the two-hour results show that aired Wednesday night on NBC.
Royal began playing guitar at age seven and has aspired to become a “superstar on tour.” During the quarterfinals, she earned the Golden Buzzer with a cover of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.” For the season 21 finale, she performed a reimagined version of the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” featuring a new guitar solo. She wore a traditional dress emblazoned with “Nene Thailand” during her winning performance.
Throughout the season, Royal electrified audiences and judges with covers including The Cranberries’ “Zombie.”
Special guests and performers during the live results show included Linkin Park, Josh Groban, Lele Pons, REI AMI and Steve Aoki.
