Lucy Dacus is commemorating the end of her Forever Is a Feeling album era with a performance at the Hollywood Bowl accompanied by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and her touring band. The show will feature orchestral arrangements throughout, with no break from the full ensemble sound.
Violinist Phoenix Rousiamani arranged the material, reworking songs with unconventional instrument choices rather than simply adding strings to the originals. Dacus said the arrangements are “weird” and give familiar songs “a completely different feel.” She has been taking singing lessons to adjust her vocal dynamics to mesh with the orchestra’s sound.
Dacus solicited fan requests on social media and tallied suggestions to prioritize song selections. Tracks that received multiple requests include “Triple Dog Dare,” which was never released as a single, and “Kissing Lessons.” The setlist will include more songs than her previous orchestral show in Chicago, with librettos totaling 300 pages.
The Hollywood Bowl holds significance for Dacus: Boygenius performed their final show there on Halloween 2023. She described returning to the venue as emotionally charged, noting she cried throughout the Boygenius performance and again at a Joni Mitchell concert held there. “Maybe it’s a place where I’m supposed to cry,” she said.
Cat Power will open the show. Dacus said she was surprised when Cat Power accepted the invitation, calling her “a legend” whose voice, songwriting, and presence are “unmatched.”
