A jury in Las Vegas found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of orchestrating the September 7, 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Davis, 63, was convicted of murder with the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang, according to ABC News.
The jury deliberated for three hours after a weeks-long trial. Prosecutors alleged that Davis orchestrated Shakur’s murder and handed the gunman the murder weapon. They identified the shooter as either Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, Davis’ nephew, or another man in the backseat of the vehicle.
Prosecutor Binu Palal told jurors that Davis had confessed his involvement over nearly 18 years to police, media and in his own memoir. “For nearly 18 years, Duane Davis has told the police, television, books, YouTube interviewers … he is responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur,” Palal said.
Davis’ attorney Michael Sanft argued that Davis’ own confessions did not constitute real evidence and questioned why the case was being prosecuted 30 years after the killing.
Davis faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
