Gavin Brivik and Andrew Bird won the outstanding original music and lyrics Emmy on September 6 for “Need Someone,” written for HBO Max’s drama series The Pitt. They defeated Lady Gaga, who was nominated for “The Dead Dance” from Wednesday, and South Park creator Trey Parker, nominated for “Christian Woman” from South Park.
Other major winners: Dave Porter won two Emmys for Apple TV’s Pluribus—outstanding original main title theme music and outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series. Sean Callery and Sara Barone won outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series for Netflix’s The Beast in Me; it was Callery’s fifth Emmy and Barone’s first. David Fleming won outstanding music composition for a series for Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay, his second Emmy. Toko Nagata won her first Emmy for outstanding music supervision on Widow’s Bay.
On September 5, Miguel Gandelman won outstanding music direction for The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny on NBC. Tyler Strickland won outstanding music composition for a documentary/nonfiction or reality program for John Candy: I Like Me on Prime Video.
The awards were presented during the first two nights of the 2026 Primetime Emmys at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
