Taylor Swift performed an unreleased piano mashup of three songs at the Grammy Museum’s Clive Davis Theater, combining “All Too Well,” “I Knew It, I Knew You” and “August” into a six-minute medley. The performance was part of a 42-minute interview with Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason Jr. and was released online Monday on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel.
Swift explained that the mashup echoed surprise medleys she performed during her Eras Tour, which concluded in December 2024. “This is the piano that I brought with me all around the world on the Eras Tour,” she said. She described selecting songs connected by a common theme—in this case, memory and reliving detailed moments of life.
The medley interwove the three songs thematically, with opening lines from “I Knew It, I Knew You” transitioning into the breakup narrative of “All Too Well” before shifting to the lighter tone of “August.” Swift noted that “I Knew It, I Knew You” continues to perform well on country and Billboard Hot 100 charts.
During the session, Swift discussed her songwriting evolution across albums including her debut, “Speak Now” and “Reputation.” She emphasized the importance of purposeful detail in songwriting and cautioned against conflating shock value with meaningful confessional writing. “Just saying something dramatic, shocking and wild doesn’t make it something that’s gonna help people resonate with people,” she said.
